SCULPTRA®
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a new type of facial injectable which helps to restore lost collagen and correct the signs of facial fat loss due to aging and weight loss. This is an FDA-approved, biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material (poly-L-lactic acid) which has been used by physicians for decades. Sculptra treatments result in a gradual increase in skin thickness, which effectively corrects shallow to deep facial wrinkles as well as restores facial volume and fullness. The cosmetic results of this treatment last at least 2 years.
Our Approach
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a subtle, gradual, and natural-appearing treatment choice. A full treatment requires an average of three injection sessions over a few months. Patients typically schedule three treatment sessions 6-8 weeks apart. All treatments are performed with local anesthesia by our highly trained dermatologists and patients are entirely comfortable throughout the procedure. Since the transformation is subtle and gradual, Sculptra® Aesthetic gives patients a more natural-looking appearance without "giving them away" during the treatment process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the best candidate for this procedure?
Patients with volume loss of the face involving the cheeks, temples, and mid-face who may also have shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds. This procedure is not for patients who are eager for results within a few days, but rather for those who would like a subtle, gradual cosmetic improvement over several months.
Who should not use Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. This includes if you have an allergy to absorbable suture material (Vicryl), or if you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area. Patients with a history of hypertrophic scars or keloids are not appropriate candidates for Sculptra®.
Recovery
After injection with Sculptra®, patients may have bruising and swelling in the treatment areas. There is minimal post treatment pain or discomfort and most patients return to work the next day and apply makeup. Side effects of Sculptra® Aesthetic may also include redness, bleeding, itching and swelling of treatment sites. Other much less common side effects include small bumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable. Larger lumps, with or without inflammation, have also been reported. We instruct our patients to massage treatment sites using Cetaphil lotion with their fingertips a few times a day for several days after each treatment session in order to help evenly distribute the Sculptra® material.
