PEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY
In the past three decades, there has been a tremendous increase in our understanding of pediatric skin conditions, the genetic basis for many of these diseases, and their treatment. Skin diseases in infants and young children differ in many respects from the same diseases in older children and adults. As a result, young children may require a dermatologist with special expertise in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. This is the role of the pediatric dermatologist.
For example, atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema) is a common skin condition that may have an appearance that is different in babies and young children as compared to adults. It is important for the dermatologist to recognize these differences, and to expertly adjust the treatment plan according to the child's age, as well as the location and severity of his/her rash.
Dr. Lillian Soohoo is one of only a few Board-Certified pediatric dermatologists in the Bay Area. In addition to her general dermatology practice, Dr. Soohoo specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions in children. She welcomes both new and established pediatric patients to The Menkes Clinic.
