The Menkes Clinic & Surgery Center
5 Pediatric Dermatology Mountain View - 5 Star Ratings
"The doctor was amazing! I would love to have her be my dermatologist as well as my child's! Very personable, kind, great with my son, explained everything and very knowledgeable. She fit us in for an appointment within a day although she was booked solid. Five stars!"

In the past three decades, there has been a tremendous increase in our understanding of pediatric skin conditions, the genetic basis for many of these diseases, and their treatment. Skin diseases in infants and young children vary in many aspects from the same diseases in older children and adults. As a result, young children may require a dermatologist with special expertise in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. This is the role of the pediatric dermatologist.
  • Pediatric dermatology is a specialized field
  • Skin diseases in children may not resemble those seen in adults
  • Effective treatments may differ in children
In other words, children are not merely "little adults" and even common skin disorders such as acne, eczema and warts should have treatment plans appropriate to a child’s age and developmental stage. For example, painful therapies such as freezing warts are often inappropriate for young children. Topical treatments may be more effective for this age group.

Dr. Lillian Soohoo is one of only a few board-certified pediatric dermatologists in the Bay Area. In addition to her general dermatology practice, Dr. Soohoo specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions in children. Dr. Soohoo is a clinical faculty member at Stanford Medical School and teaches pediatric and dermatology residents at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Common conditions treated by your pediatric dermatologist

  • Atopic dermatitis (eczema)
  • Warts
  • Molluscum Contagiosum
  • Acne
Atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema) is a common skin condition that may appear different in babies and young children than in adults. It is important to recognize these differences, and the dermatologists at The Menkes Clinic & Surgery Center are able to expertly adjust the treatment plan according to the child’s age, as well as the location and severity of his/her rash.

Warts and molluscum contagiosum are contagious viral skin infections that are frequently seen in children and teens. Treatment choices are determined by the child’s age, the location of the warts and tolerance for discomfort. Careful consideration of these factors results in the most effective treatment in children.

Acne is another common pediatric dermatology condition affecting the face, chest and back. As children become teenagers, the psychological and emotional effects of acne can often be troubling, affecting self-esteem and even school performance. By addressing young patients’ concerns about their acne and using the appropriate medications to clear their skin, this potentially scarring condition can be managed effectively. At The Menkes Clinic & Surgery Center, we formulate a treatment plan that takes into account a teenager's active lifestyle, personal goals and treatment preferences. In this way, their prescribed acne treatment will not only result in clearer skin, but will also allow them to pass through this often difficult stage of their life with minimal disruption.

We offer skin, hair, and nail treatments for people of all ages. Contact our office today for your visit with an experienced, board certified dermatologist.
